Palazzo Barberini is one of the two headquarters of the National Galleries of Ancient Art. The palace was purchased in 1949 by the heirs of the family and since 1953 it has housed in the monumental rooms a collection of works from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century, with absolute masterpieces such as the Annunciation by Filippo Lippi, Raphael's Fornarina and Caravaggio's Judith and Holofernes.Palazzo Barberini is, after all, the emblem of the Roman Baroque.A real palace commissioned by Pope Urban VIII and entrusted to the main artists of the seventeenth century: Carlo Maderno, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Francesco Borromini and Pietro da Cortona, who created the extraordinary ceiling with the Triumph of Divine Providence in the main hall.
